Wayne Stinnett's 12th book in the Jesse McDermitt Series, is the latest, great book in a great series! The bad guys come into what Jesse considershis back yard, when a boat blows up, within site of his island. That may have been the beginning, but Jesse will end it!Please check "Yes" if you have found this review helpful. I rely upon others' reviewsto make an informed decision anytime I make a purchase, so it is my intentionto help others do the same. I welcome any questions or feedback.
Wow...was planning on being the first to review this one.. downloaded it yesterday, read a little and finished it last night. Mr. Stinnett once again hits a home run.. this time Jesse comes through once again but more emphasis on his "local" friends than his CIA/bad boy and girl connections but they are there.Moral of the story... do NOT piss off Mr. McDermitt. This is #12 in this series and Wayne Stinnett does a wonderful job developing characters and leading us into the next in the series. A master plan I suppose.this one is a must read as are all the others.
"Rising Fury" is described as the 12th in the Caribbean Adventure Series by Wayne Stinnett. For this first time reader it is a case of either "different strokes for different folks" or a caution not to judge a series by one book without having read more in the series. I suspect it may be a bit of both for me. The first 3/4ths of the book was plodding and slow paced with a ton of descriptions of ocean going vessels and the environs of the Florida Keys...which I suspect is a major attraction for all the 5 star reviews. Only the last 1/4th of the book was entertaining as a flood of new, previously undiscussed players show up leading me to presume there is a lot more in Jesse McDermitt's back stories that I need to catch up on. This could be a stand-alone book for the action but not for the myriad characters who keep popping up with little or no background explanations for the new reader. In "Rising Fury", Jesse sees a shrimp trawler explode in a very explosive manner, prompting him to dive the wreck and discover what appears to be a floating meth lab. Among the dead is the sister of Jesse's old flame, Savannah Richmond, who shows up to claim her sister's body with an eight-year-old who looks suspiciously like Jesse. Is he Jesse's son? Why was Savannah's sister on board a crack lab and who is the mastermind behind it all? Jesse and friends spend most of the book diving the wreck and seeking answers leading to an attack on Jesse's daughter's boyfriend which tips Jesse over the edge as he heads to a showdown confrontation that finally brings life to the story. While this book was less than fulfilling, I plan to read others in the series to get a broader view of the characters and back story. I suspect there is more to my liking than can be judged on just this one novel.
Rising Fury may well be Mr. Sinnett's finest novel to date. When a boat explodes almost literally in his backyard, Jesse runs to the recuse where he is confronted by a ghost from his past who dies right before his eyes, leaving him with far more questions than answers. As the story weaves on, Jesse realizes that like the sea itself, life is continuously changing. With one wedding on the horizon by the end of the book, Jesse finds himself looking to the future and wondering again if a past love can be resurrected. Great pacing, great plot, and fascinating characters.
I have been a fan of Wayne Stinnett's books since the beginning. I have read everything he's published to date. His writing keeps getting better and his books have the feeling of a "family" of characters that you could actually go to the Florida Keys and meet. This story is fast paced and has the external plot of Jesse McDermitt trying to solve a crime and the threat to his friends and family and the internal plot of complications in his love life as an old girlfriend shows up. It reminded me of the old Lovin' Spoonful song - "Did You Ever Have To Make Up Your Mind." I think you'll get a kick out of how that turns out. I give it 5 stars because when I got it, I put everything else on pause and binged the whole book.
We learn more about Jesse's personal side in this novel. He is always a warrior but this novel shows more about what's inside him. I enjoyed getting to know this side of him. Some spiritual insight from Rufus on what is to come keeps us guessing. A few people from the past show us and one very nice surprise that takes us into the next adventure. Which I for one can't wait to read. Mr Stinnett draws us in from the very first page and keeps us involved until the very last word. Read this book or start the series and read them all. You will enjoy the adventure plus learn a lot of good info in the process.
Another classic Jessie McDermitt adventure. Out of all of Wayne Stinnett's novels there was only one that I felt missed the mark, and this wasn't the one. For a man who lives on an out of the way island off the Gulf coast, Jessie always manages to find himself in the middle of something. This time it is an exploding shrimp boat and a visit from an old but not forgotten girlfriend. The author has a great style of writing and is a superb story teller. Great characters as always, even the bad guys are done right. Don't miss it, a really good book in a great series.
B-O-O-M. There are quite a few booms in this really enjoyable tale from Wayne Stinnett. There are physical booms (as in explosions and gunfire) plus the emotional type. You will need to read this latest in the series to get the gist of the emotional upheavals among other aspects. If you haven't read any of the earlier books in the series, it would be wise to do so. This will give you the back-stories on the many interesting characters that make up Jesse McDermitt's world both on and off his island in the Content Keys. As one cop said of Jesse: '... he is a very dangerous man' when riled .... and in this book, he does get riled.
